Solid Curriculum
LCA has high academic standards in both the curriculum (what is taught) and instruction (how it is taught). Students can accomplish and attain much more than they themselves realize, and our academic program challenges them to reach that God-given potential. The academic program uses primarily the ABEKA curriculum with its Bible based textbooks written from a Christian perspective. This ABEKA curriculum is used by over a million Christian school students worldwide and has a proven track record of academic excellence.
3 AND 4-YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTEN
At LCA, we don’t just offer “preschool.” It’s not just daycare. We offer an academic program for these ages that provides an excellent head start for learning in a fun, active environment. Three-year-olds learn the basics of letters, numbers, colors, and the world around them in addition to learning how to behave in a class, play with others, and listen attentively. In the four-year-old program, students learn to pronounce the blends that letters make together and use that basis to begin to read. In fact, by the spring, students are split into smaller “reading circles” so that the teacher can work on reading individually with students. Numbers and cursive writing are also emphasized as well as growing in motor skills and character traits.
5-YEAR-OLD Kindergarten
The five-year-old program is a fun academic program in which the students receive an exceptional, phonics-first foundation for future learning. The kindergarten program includes instruction in Bible, phonics-based reading, social studies, cursive writing, numbers, and singing. The culmination of students’ hard work is a May graduation ceremony in which the four and five-year-olds showcase their year’s learning through songs, poems, games, and a play.
ELEMENTARY
The grade 1-5 program is designed to help students master the skills needed for a lifetime of learning. Students study the following subjects: Bible, grammar, history, mathematics, penmanship, phonics, science, spelling, reading, art, music, and physical education. An emphasis is also placed on character development as students are expected to work diligently to reach academic goals.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Grade 6-8 students reinforce and expand on the academic learning of elementary in order to prepare for acquiring credits in high school. Bible, grammar, literature, spelling, history, earth and space science, as well as practical mathematical, geometric and algebraic concepts are covered. At a time when interpersonal relationships can cause problems, LCA students learn to treat others with biblical compassion and Christ-like love while learning to exhibit self-control and diligence in their academics.
HIGH SCHOOL
The grade 9-12 program is a challenging program of study that prepares students for college and careers. LCA has alumni who serve as employees, missionaries, electricians, teachers, engineers, managers, doctors, nurses, and many other occupations. Students learn the value of hard work, preparation, and fulfilling responsibilities as they discover that they can accomplish more than even they imagined.
